Leashes, Clips, Tethers, and Fastening Systems

Many anglers who use a kayaks for fishing have at least one story of the item they watched go over the side and disappear into the depths. It is a heart breaking tale especially if expensive however this is completely preventable by attaching items with our purpose made accessories.

Rod and Paddle Leashes

'Leash it or lose it'. Plenty of kayak anglers have a story to tell about the rod/reel they watched go over the side and disappear into the depths. Paddles are another item that is best attached to the kayak especially if a user does solo missions, where losing it can pose potential risk. Leashes are the best way to keep items attached to a kayak. The Rob Fort Series range offers a variety of leashes that cater to most applications and budgets. They incorporate two designs that use various materials and traditional manufacturing techniques. Choose from snap swivel clip or a multi directional design incorporating brass barrel swivel and snap clip. All leashes include an inline end loop that connects to a rod/paddle with a half hitch that will tighten when under pressure. All leashes feature supple twist free movement with cord that won't create sound when knocking against the kayak, long lifespan and trouble free use.

Personal Tether

Safety message - Kayak anglers that go out on their own are advised to consider what can happen if they capsize and become separated from the kayak. There are a number of factors that can cause this including wind that is likely to quickly move a kayak away from them. Even when a kayak is anchored to the sea floor a user can be separated by strong currents or rips. This is easily avoided by using a tether line to stay connected to the kayak. A personal tether line should never be connected to the waist area of the body. It is safer to attach the user at the upper part of the chest area using a belt or harness with quick release device. This is important so the user can release from the system in emergency. With the belt below the arms, attach the tether so it is positioned at the rear of the body against the back. The Rob Fort Series personal tether is designed for use with sit on-top kayaks offering a bungee system with outer webbing sleeve to absorb movement and provide strong connection. The incorporated carabiner clip attaches to a stainless D-ring that is included with the tether and large enough to fit a 50mm belt or harness. At the opposite end of the tether is a large snap clip with an opening wide enough to fit over various attachment points on the kayak. All materials used are marine grade and 316 stainless steel..

This makes them ideal for use with kayaks and other watercraft. The rubber well nut will fasten on wall thicknesses up to 9mm and requires a 9.5mm hole drilled into the substrate. To attach accessories use the correct size M5 bolt. The well nut has a brass insert, and when fully tightened compresses the rubber housing against the internal surface. This offers a solid connection and watertight seal. The rubber well nut comes supplied on its own or with a M5 bolt.
